Below are different projects completed by the Markwell Group over the last few years.
MARKWELL PLANT HIREMARKWELL DEMOLITIONS |
INNISFAIL HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT 2005 - 2006
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Buildings ranged from 1 to 4 storeys. Manual demolition was used to strip out all salvaged material doors, windows, floor timbers etc, and to remove all asbestos material. Mechanical demolition commenced using a 30t Excavator with a grab and another 30t Excavator, working behind sorting rubbish and loading Semi Tippers, for removal from site. Site clean-up operations were completed using 814 Compactor and Grader.
AYR HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT 2004
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The buildings on site ranged from 1 storey to 3 storeys, manual demolition was used to remove all salvageable items windows, doors etc. The asbestos material was removed manually. Mechanical demolition commenced using a 75t Excavator to demolish and a 20t excavator to sort rubbish and load. Concrete material was recycled using a concrete crusher for reuse on site.
NORTHTOWN REFURBISHMENT 2005
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This job was achieved through manual demolition of gyprock timber walls, concrete walls, removal of ceiling tiles and grids. Removal of stairwells and further demolition of underground carpark using a 3t Excavator with hydraulic Rockbreaker, and further demolition of underground carpark.
RAAF BASE REDEVLOPMENT 2004
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Aeroplane hanger was approximately 15 metres high and 300 metres long. This was demolished using manual demolition. Roofing iron and wall iron was unscrewed and the left over structure was unbolted and lifted down using an 80t crane onto flat top trailers for transport. The concrete slab was ripped up using a 20t Excavator with a Rockbreaker and Ripper. Concrete was crushed on site using our Mobile Crushers for reuse
DEMOLITION OF MERINDA MEATWORKS 2004
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Buildings on site ranged from 1 storey to 4 storeys and were concrete structures with timber purlins and asbestos-sheeted roofs. Manual demolition was used to remove all asbestos off site, mechanical demolition commenced using a 75t Excavator and 30T Excavator with Shears.
LAVARACK BARRACKS REDEVELOPMENT STAGES 1,2 & 3 2000-2005
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Markwell Demolitions demolished over 200 buildings ranging from 1 storey to 3 storey buildings. This involved manual demolition to strip out salvageable items, roof timber, windows, doors etc. Mechanical demolition was used to demolish all left over structures, this was achieved by a 30T Excavator with Shears.
ABIGROUP – 2000/2001
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: VINCENT VILLAGE SHOPPING CENTRE REFURBISHMENT
Vincent Village Shopping Centre Refurbishment involving manual and mechanical demolition using hydraulic excavators, rockbreakers, shears, grabs and mobile jaw crushers to recycle concrete and blocks onsite.
QLD NICKEL-2000
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of various steel structures in the 360 Area
Markwell Demolitions was contracted to demolish 360 area store shed and towers. Building was approximately 30m in height, towers were approximately 30 – 40m in height. All asbestos wall sheeting and roof sheeting had to be removed manually, a crane was used to lift the roof material down, a 30t Excavator was used to cut the remaining steel structure for recycling.
QBUILD-2000
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Refurbishment of D Block, Pimlico Tafe
Markwell Demolitions were contracted to strip out the top floor of D block for redevelopment of a new restaurant. This job entailed manual demolition, the whole floor had to be stripped out back to concrete, including ceilings, floor tiles, cold rooms, internal block walls etc. A rubbish chute was set up on this side of the building for body trucks to back under to load out all demolition material.
MILES BLUCHER ARCHITECTS – 2000/2001
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of Shaws Arcade .. New Post Office Site
Markwell Demolitions was contracted to demolish Shaws arcade and the old store sheds beside it. The store sheds were multi-storey and all the air-conditioned plant rooms had to be decommissioned. Manual demolition was used to remove asbestos ceilings, roof iron and roof trusses. The building that backed onto the store sheds had to be prepped and removed manually so the surrounding buildings weren’t damaged. A 30t Excavator was used to demolish remaining structure, demolition material was loaded onto Semis for transport. The arcade beside the store sheds were stripped out manually, and a 12t Excavator was used to rockbreak a disabled access ramp. Demolition material was loaded out by hand for transport off site.
PHILLIP LEONG INVESTMENTS-1999
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of 12,000m2 shopping centre, up to 2 storey high on a busy traffic intersection.
This project needed to be completed within a strict time frame to enable construction to begin. 95% of the concrete and brick rubble was crushed on site to manufacture an engineered fill material.
TOWNSVILLE CITY COUNCIL – 1998/1999
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Excavation, Rock Supply, Rock Placement, Fill, Construction of headland and foreshore works to the Award Winning Townsville Strand.
QUEENSLAND CEMENT LIMITED – 1996
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of various buildings on site including steel framed buildings up to 20m high. This work involved the demolition of some 14 silos and one 60m stack. Two of these were demolished by blasting. Almost half of the concrete rubble from this project was recycled and used on another project, This work also involved asbestos removal and the handling and removal of large quantities of contaminated soil.
WATPAC REFURBISHMENTS – 1997
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Part demolition of the Townsville Breakwater Entertainment Centre including part concrete floor removal, pile cap removal and detailed excavation. This work was required to be completed in a short time frame to enable the opening of a new basketball facility; shift work was involved to complete the project on time.
PROJECT SERVICES – 1996
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Markwell Demolitions was contracted to demolish the Nurses Quarters which was a 5 storey building situated very close to the existing Dental Surgery, Pathology Building and adjoining high rise holiday apartments. The demolition was of a very sensitive nature in that it involved asbestos removal, disconnection and diversion of existing services, protection of staff and public paths of travel, and out of hours work because of the proximity of the adjoining buildings.
QLD DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING - 1995
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of a 90 unit 3 storey residential housing unit known as ‘Morrill Court”.
N.Q.E.A. - 1995
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of Shredder Building at Kalamia Mill including the removal of the tippler, shredder and turbine.
KALAMIA SUGAR MILL, AYR – 1995
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition and asbestos removal of Number 4 Boiler at Kalamia Mill.
TOWNSVILLE PORT AUTHORITY – 1994
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Demolition of wharf at Townsville Port Authority
NORTHEN REGIONAL HEALTH AUTHORITY – 1994
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Asbestos removal and demolition of 4 storey hospital building (D Block). This work had to be completed in strict schedule conditions as well as maintaining the hospital services (sewer, water, electrical mains) which ran through/adjacent to the building. Noise limits had to be controlled during this project.
DALRYMPLE SHIRE COUNCIL – 1993
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Removal of asbestos and concrete, part demolition of internal walls whilst other part of the building was occupied at the Dalrymple Shire Council offices, Mossman Street in Charters Towers.
STATHEM QLD PTY LTD – 1991
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Asbestos removal and demolition of the Cairns B.C.C. Odeon Cinema Complex.
CSR INKERMAN MILL – 1991
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Asbestos removal of 5 evaporators, clarifiers and pipework as well as the demolition of 4 evaporators and molasses tanks.
HOLLAND STOLTE – 1990
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Asbestos removal, part demolition and detailed excavation at the James Cook University Library building, Townsville. This work was to be completed whilst the library was in operation.
STATHEM QLD PTY LTD – 1990
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Asbestos removal and demolition at the BCC Townsville Twin Cinemas (now BCC Townsville 5 Cinemas). This work involved the demolition of one theatre (including asbestos removal) and the detailed excavation whilst keeping the adjoining theatre in operation.
BP AUSTRALIA PTY LTD 2005/2006
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: - Decommissioning and removal of bulk fuel tank farm.
Excavation, haulage, rehabilitation and replacement of approximately 25,000m3 of contaminated soils at BP Australia South Townsville facility.
BIRLA MT GORDON/GUNPOWDER COPPER MINE 2005/2006
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: - Supply and establishment of primary and secondary crushing circuits at Mt Birla Copper Mine North West of Mt Isa.
- Crushing of approximately 1400t of ore per day, with further crushing of material for road base product for underground roads and drainage area.
ROCHE ELTIN JOINT VENTURE & CENTURY MINE 2002-2004
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Supply and establishment of crushing operation for production of materials for construction and maintenance of haul roads in open cut pit mining operation. Production of stemming material for blasting operations in open cut pit.
BELMADAR 2004
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Ongoing hire of various excavators, Articulated Dump Trucks, Dozers, and Mobile Crushers and Powerscreens for production of materials for main Douglas arterial road in Townsville.
GAB ROBINS – 1998
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Earthworks were made secure behind a two-storey house as a result of Townsville January flood damage. Replacement of soil, compaction and excavation of footings for a retaining rock wall to be built. The access to this site was very difficult i.e. a 12 tonne excavator and other equipment had to be craned into position.
QLD RAILWAY – 1998
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Replacement of ballast and further repairs to storm damaged culverts and rock spillways. On the Townsville to Mt Isa rail line following cyclonic storms and heavy rains.
ROBLEY, HALL & DUNLOP - 1997
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Removal of earthworks inacessability in a confined space, in and around a house, pergola and garage. This work required extreme care, due to the accessibility of the property and placement of soil and rock that was washed against the house as a result of flood damage (rebuild rock wall).
QLD RAILWAY – 1997
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Clean out culverts and repairs to rock batters caused by flood damage. This work was completed at various locations – Townsville to Crystal Creek. The operating conditions were very difficult because of extremely wet soil conditions.
CAPRICORN BARGE – 1995
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Reconstruction of rock wall in Ross Creek, Townsville.
DREDECO – 1995
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Remove section of Townsville Port Authority rock wall, install 600 mm inlet/outlet pipe, rebuild rock wall section to match to existing remaining wall.
TOWNSVILLE PORT AUTHORITY – 1992-1993
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Construction of rock and rubble bund wall in the 90ha reclaim, approximately – 5 kilometres.
TOWNSVILLE PORT AUTHORITY – 1992
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Construction of rock groin alongside the collapsed outer retaining wall in the 90ha reclaim.
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Our excavators have been on hire intermittently for the past ten years performing work including digging drains, cleaning drains, roadworks, constructing meter outlets, building rock retaining walls and batters.
